ReplyDeleteThis is going to be AWESOME!!
ReplyDeleteFrom brush hooks to chainsaws and throwin dirt, Dalton has been standing on solid line for 60 years!
ReplyDeleteKeep on, keepin' on!
ReplyDeleteI am looking foreward to this reunion. I was with Dalton in 1966 and 1968. I consider those two seasons the most important in my life and set me on an abbreviated career in fire management. To those two crews and our Superintendent, thanks for the memories.

p.s. Does this mean that Dalton will finely have a website?
Wow! Didn't realize we had been around that long. David Nava, Dalton Hotshot, 1984, 1985, 1986, and 1987.
ReplyDeleteI was on Dalton Hotshots in 1989, 1990, and it was one of the best experiences I've had in my life. I won't be able to make the reunion as I am currently in Afghanistan with the military, and won't be back in the States until later in 2013. So if anyone can send some photos, it would be much appreciated! And hey, drink a beer at the firepit for me!

Since we have this blog going why stop now? Is there anyone out that remembers the 1966 "Great Buckhorn Bar and Deer Head Caper?"
ReplyDeleteNo? Is there anyone out there who was on the Loop Fire with Chuck, Paul, Yazzie, and me? Is there anyone out there older than I? Since health kept me from travelling to the reunion, will photos and list of attendees be posted.
Bob Withrow, Crew 2, 1966 & 68
I am starting to write some things down about my days on Dalton HS. Loved all the guys, Jerry Simeni (hot shovel), Joel Pomeroy, Bruce Strelo (animal), Hansen (horse cock), Tunstill, Mike Holland, John Hensch, Yazzie (Lou), John Chackerian, Tim Tinsley, Jim Mchann, and the list goes on and on. ReplyDeleteHello to Bob Withrow from Ron Perrault Dalton Hotshots 1966! I left for Citrus College by September 1966 and was not on the Loop Fire but I am as old as you are Bob! I I remember lead brush hook Kieth Lemean cutting through his White Boots burying the brush hook between his toes. The boot toe was cut through but his toes were intact. I also remember coming into the crew as the season started, being schooled in fire safety and then before the first week was out leaving on my first fire without any gloves! I believe I found a pair later in fire camp! Sorry I missed the reunion and found out about it to late. The second year I became tanker rot working at Rincon Station in the San Gabrial Canyon for Gordon Rolly. After that I was a firefighter at Lassen Volcanic National Park .... great confidence builder and I really trusted superintendent Chuck Hartley and foreman Yazzie, Gleason was the crew boss. Graduated with a degree in Wildlife Management from Humboldt and retired as a game warden for California Department of Fish and Game

A quick note my friend Mike Kaminski joined the Dalton Hotshots in 1967 and after college and USAF finally worked for the BLM in Oregon and Utah.
